Theme: "Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated (IUU)" Fishery Issues and the Future of Fisheries and Resource Management -Based on Fisheries Policy Reforms-
Lecturer: Takahiro Matsui (Associate Professor, Ocean Policy and Culture Division, Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology)
Abstract: In December 2020, the revised Fisheries Act came into effect.This aims to strengthen resource management and turn fishing into a growth industry.The promotion of traceability is also mentioned, but behind this is the problem of IUU (illegal, unreported, and unregulated) fishing.In this lecture, I will examine the issue of IUU fishing and the future of fisheries and resource management based on the reform of fisheries policy centered on the revision of the Fisheries Law.
Lecturer Career: Graduated from Faculty of Agriculture, University of Tokyo.He completed a doctoral course at the Graduate School of Agricultural and Life Sciences.He is a Ph.D. (Agriculture).After working as a GCOE postdoctoral researcher at Kinki University and an associate professor at Mie University, he became an associate professor at Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology in October 2018.His specialty is fisheries economics.In recent years, he has been working on economic analysis of IUU (illegal, unreported, and unregulated) fishing, resource management of coastal fisheries, anti-poaching measures, branding/marketing, and revitalization of fishing villages through promotion of beach stays.
