Abstract: Japan's fishery production has continued to decline after peaking in the latter half of the 1980s, and in recent years has fallen to about one-third of its peak.In addition, the number of fishery workers is decreasing, the population is aging, and the consumption of marine products is declining (a shift away from fish). On the other hand, looking at the world, fisheries production is increasing due to the rapid expansion of aquaculture industry, and the consumption of marine products is also on the rise, so it is truly regarded as a growth industry. We will discuss why this is happening and whether we can get hints for reviving Japanese fisheries from around the world.
