Kesennuma City and Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology Collaborative Project ““Living with the Sea” Continuous Fisheries Seminar” 8th season has ended

Our university concluded a partnership agreement with Kesennuma City, Miyagi Prefecture in March 24, and has implemented various initiatives so far.As part of this, from fiscal 3, during the period from December, when the saury fishing season is off, to May of the following year, when the bonito fishing season begins, we have conducted a campaign called "Umi to Ikiru" for fishermen and people engaged in fishery-related businesses. We co-sponsor the "Continuous Fisheries Seminar" several times a year.

　In this term, the 8th season, we held three times with the central theme of "What is happening in the seas of Japan and the world now?"

The first lecture was given by Professor Joji Morishita of the Department of Ocean Policy and Culture, TUFS, with the theme of "What is happening in the world's oceans?" Above, you gave a lecture on the possibility of turning Japanese fisheries into a growth industry.

In the second special symposium, the theme of "global warming" was further explored, and "What is happening in the seas of Japan and the world's seas and how they are affecting marine resources?" Professor Jota Kanda, who is also the president of the Oceanographic Society of Japan, served as the coordinator. Tetsuo Saito, president of the Kesennuma Fisheries Cooperative Association, Toshio Suga, professor at the Graduate School of Science, Tohoku University, and Nojiri, former Graduate School of Science and Engineering, Hirosaki University. We welcomed Dr. Yukihiro, and furthermore, Dr. Michiyo Kawai, Associate Professor of Marine Environmental Sciences, and Dr. Toshihide Kitakado, Professor of Marine Bioresources, gave lectures from various perspectives.

In the third and final session, Associate Professor Takahiro Matsui of the Department of Ocean Policy and Culture will discuss the theme of "What is happening to Japan's fisheries and fisheries industry, the factors behind it, and the future?" He gave a lecture on how the change in the market is affecting distribution, the accompanying change in demand, and the response that will be required in the future.
