This time's "Highly Specialized Career Development Theory" was held in place of the XNUMXth lecture by participating in the symposium titled.Students were required to attend for at least XNUMX minutes to earn credits.
XNUMX. Opening remarks by Mr. Ito, Deputy Director General of Science and Technology Policy Bureau, Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology
First, he expressed his respect and appreciation for the activities that have been carried out in relation to this project.
So far, XNUMX universities have participated in this project. In particular, the development of human resources is essential in order to sustainably play an active role in the international community. In today's symposium, there was an opening remark that we are asking for lectures from both the perspective of companies and the perspective of fostering.
XNUMX. Mr. Wada, Director of Human Resources Policy Division, Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, explained the project
According to the HXNUMX survey, there are about XNUMX people with PD nationwide.Especially in science and agriculture, about XNUMX% of students are PD in the first five years after obtaining their degrees. In addition, XNUMX% of them have experienced PD multiple times, but XNUMX% have changed occupations in the middle, and half of them are university teachers.According to the same survey, there was a report that although PDs have a strong desire to work for private companies, the number of PDs employed by companies is extremely low.
In this project, XNUMX people have completed internships so far, and XNUMX companies (XNUMX of them are overseas) have accepted internships. He explained that he would like to build a consortium for matching in the next fiscal year.
XNUMX. Keynote speech by Mr. Mishima, President of Tokyo Institute of Technology
Mr. Mishima introduced the efforts of Tokyo Tech's Institute for Global Leadership. In this initiative, the spirit of the students is particularly important, and as a mechanism to select motivated students, they are operating off-campus education through a dojo system jointly with Hitotsubashi University.
Mr. Mishima said that it would be unreasonable to try to train students from the DC straight away, and that it is necessary to inculcate the atmosphere from the very beginning. Also, if you apply each measure on such a foundation, it will be extremely effective. To that end, the role of teachers is important, and he concluded his keynote speech by stating that it is necessary to provide education that makes students think about the meaning of going on to MC or DC.
XNUMX. Introducing case studies of doctoral human resources
(XNUMX) Case study on venture entrepreneurship by Mr. Sekiyama of Spiber
Originally, I had no interest in getting a degree, and I was looking for an environment where I could continue the research that I wanted to do.He went on to a doctoral course, but it seems that he immediately started a business and dropped out.Mr. Sekiyama said that it would be difficult to start a venture unless you are someone who enjoys pioneering new things. He also said that we shouldn't decide on our own areas of expertise, and companies are looking for people who can become experts in any field as needed.
(XNUMX) Mr. Nonaka of Placera Inc. introduces a case of getting a job at a private company
At first, she wanted to pursue a career in academia, but after three years of PD experience, she began to think that it would be difficult to make ends meet just by doing research, and that her qualities were not what she was supposed to be.After that, he met Placera during a problem-proposal internship at Osaka University, and it seems that he began to think that he wanted to contribute to society in his field of specialty, proteins. He explained that he is currently engaged in work that enables the early diagnosis of diseases using the company's biomarkers, and that as the director of the research center, he gives instructions on experiments and data analysis, and works to solve problems on a daily basis.
(XNUMX) Mr. Sueda of Obayashi Corporation introduces examples of employment in unexpected industries
Mr. Sueda said that his first thoughts after moving to DC were, "I don't know the flow until a doctor gets a job," and "Where can I go?"
Even in the construction industry, there are surprisingly many graduates of the Faculty of Agriculture. For example, there are fields such as greening, the conservation of rare species, and the handling of microorganisms. At that time, he thought that it is important to explain so that companies can understand what they do not see.He also explained that in order to be evaluated by companies, you should not underestimate yourself, act with confidence, and not overemphasize your specialty.
XNUMX. Panel discussion (Speaker names are omitted below.)
At the beginning, the coordinator Mr. Miyata and six panelists introduced themselves and their opinions.
(XNUMX) Next, he expressed his opinion on “the quality of doctoral human resources as viewed by universities.”
- Most of the students go to DC only with academia in mind, so they get stuck when they get stuck.
- When students want to get a job at a company, they must think seriously about what they need to learn before going to DC.
- It is important whether the student sees what the student should be XNUMX years from now and the process leading up to it, and whether the teacher sees what kind of doctor the student will become in the future.
(XNUMX) Next, he expressed his opinion on “the quality of doctoral human resources that companies consider”.
- Doctors recognize that they are independent researchers who have acquired the ability to identify problems and solve them on their own.
- Companies are always changing course considering the person's suitability and unsuitability. In that sense, companies also need to make more efforts to communicate their internal career paths to the outside world.
- Research themes at companies change one after another, so there are times when only XNUMX% of researchers remain in research positions after XNUMX years.
- Students in Europe and the United States think about their career path from an early stage, and for that reason they think about what to study before proceeding to MC/DC.
- The success of a venture business is not based on innovative technology, but on teamwork and communication with colleagues. This should be necessary in the process of writing the dissertation.
(XNUMX) Next, opinions were expressed on ways to bridge the gap between the two sides.
- Isn't it necessary to control the quality of human resource development at universities?
- There was an opinion that DC curriculum reform is the ultimate goal, and there was an introduction of a case example of a university that has responded by setting up common lectures for graduate schools.
- I would like to see examples of advanced universities spread throughout the country. In order for DCs and PDs to be happy in the end, it is important to have the idea of ??acquiring and teaching the necessary abilities.
Finally, Mr. Tomita, the coordinator, gave his impressions, saying, "Each person expressed their opinions from their own standpoint, but I understood that everyone was saying the same thing."In addition, it is natural to acquire specialized knowledge, and on top of that, problem-solving ability, flexible application ability, etc. are also required. He concluded the panel discussion by stating that he believes that university education tends to place too much emphasis on knowledge, and that "I want students to teach not only knowledge but also the mind."
XNUMX. Subsequently, an information exchange meeting was held by the participants at another venue.
