Ms. Kaori Takagi Senior Researcher, Ocean Research Center, Japan Marine Biological Research Institute Co., Ltd.
The XNUMX XNUMXth Advanced Specialized Career Formation Theory (XNUMXnd workshop + round-table conference) began with a greeting from Director Kanda.
Next, Mr. Fu Chen (PD), the first presenter, was introduced by Project Professor Shioya, who acted as moderator, and made a presentation about his experience in the long-term internship.
He majored in bob博彩公司_申博体育在线-投注*官网 translation at a university in China, but after graduating, he decided to pursue a different field of specialization, so he entered the first and second half of the doctoral course at Ocean University.
The purpose of applying for the long-term internship was to "deepen my knowledge", "understand the diligent Japanese work culture", and "improve my Japanese language skills".I was able to train in all departments at the Fishing Boat Insurance Union, where I was trained, and had the opportunity to deepen my knowledge through the exchange of opinions.
By engaging in practical work, I was able to gain a deeper understanding of the relevance and systems of my work, and I was able to come up with new ideas for my research. On the other hand, seeing how seriously the employees approached their work and how highly they focused on their work had a great impact on me.I was also able to practice Japanese honorifics and polite language.
I felt that everything I did as a student led to the improvement of my abilities and that I could utilize them in my future career.
Quoting a Chinese proverb, I summarized it as follows: "By putting the knowledge you have learned into practice, further deepening the knowledge you have learned through practice, and connecting knowledge with practice, you will grow as a person."Finally, I thanked Mr. Lou, Mr. Shioya, and the Federation of Fisheries Insurance Federations, and ended the presentation.
【Question-and-answer session】
Q: Why did you become interested in maritime affairs?
A: Since I grew up near the ocean, I wanted to know more about the ocean, so I chose Ocean University. In the future, I want to go back to my hometown and get a job.
At this point, Mr. Shiotani asked Mr. Honda, Managing Director of the Central Union of Fishing Boat Insurance, where Mr. Chen is training, to make a statement.
It was my first time to accept an internship. However, I was able to learn about the insurance situation in China, and I believe that both parties benefited. He offered words of encouragement to me, asking him to continue working as a fishing boat insurance expert even after returning to Dalian.
Next, Mr. Kobayashi (PD) took the podium and made a presentation about his long-term internship experience..
After obtaining his degree, he worked as a temporary or part-time employee at the Kanagawa Prefectural Fisheries Technology Center. .
In order to participate in the long-term internship, I had to quit my current job and was very worried, but I decided to participate because I wanted to change the current situation by taking a step forward.
I wanted to know what I really wanted to do or what I could do.I thought that if I could acquire and improve my specialized knowledge and skills, I would be able to gain strength in my future job hunting activities.I also wanted to experience the working atmosphere of a private company. And above all, I wanted to make it an opportunity to reconsider myself.
By participating in the training, I was able to realize that I like living things and that I want to continue to be involved in work that can contribute to the environment. As for work, she used to stick to making the best use of her expertise, but it turned out that she was required to see things from a broader perspective in actual work.
Finally, the presentation ended with an acknowledgment of gratitude to those involved.
【Question-and-answer session】
Q: Can you give us a concrete example of when teamwork and communication were necessary within a company? Also, what is the difference from the laboratory?
A: Basically the same.In a company, I think it is more important because the scale and responsibility will increase.
Q: How will you utilize the experience of both the Fisheries Technology Center and private companies in your future work style?
A: Each had their own good points, but I felt strongly that I was doing my own job at the test site.In the current company, there is an atmosphere in which everyone builds the same thing.
Another person, Mr. Awardin (PD) from Indonesia, who completed a long-term internship at the same time, was introduced by Professor Shiotani.
It was explained that he had already been hired as a marketing manager in charge of Southeast Asia at Furuno Electric, where he was training. Then, he said that he will be transferred to Jakarta from March, and expressed his gratitude to the people involved in the long-term internship.
Next, Mr. Koyama, president of the Japan Marine Biological Research Institute Co., Ltd., who accepted Mr. Kobayashi's long-term internship, took the podium.
From the company's point of view, a long-term internship was a good opportunity to spend time looking at the person's expertise, way of thinking, and motivation from various angles through work.
The Japan Institute of Marine Biology was established by two alumni of Tokyo University of Fisheries to study their favorite marine organisms, and this year marks the XNUMXrd year.It is unreasonable to do only the research you want to pursue within the company, and most of them end up doing the research for which they have received orders. However, it is possible to carry out independent research for the future, even if the research has been commissioned. In addition, after the work is completed, the research results can be summarized in a thesis, so it is not just a matter of doing the work.As a company, we are making efforts to support individual motivation and curiosity.
The role played by doctoral human resources is not necessarily limited to their own expertise. In particular, we expect that doctoral students will produce good results by putting to the forefront the know-how they have cultivated in their research, their willingness to take on challenges, and their curiosity.
The need for marine biology research is also increasing among private companies, so he concluded his lecture by saying that he would like them to consider this as one of their employment options.
Lastly, Mr. Takagi, also from Japan Marine Biological Research Institute Co., Ltd., made a presentation.
When he was a master's student, he tried to find a job, but he became interested in research, so he declined the job offer and proceeded to the doctoral course.
After completing my degree, I was appointed as a postdoctoral fellow at the Water Research Institute. He approached his research with a stance of having a wide range of interests and interests, without being particular about his research field. However, he gradually began to seek stable employment, and when he was looking for a job in the fisheries industry regardless of public institutions, he received a job offer from his current company.
Even though it was a private company, there was not much need to pander to customers or engage in sales activities.A wide variety of people gather here, unlike a university or academic conference where similar people gather. In addition, instead of working according to an annual plan, we will work together to produce results by matching incoming work to the customer's requirements.
I learned that working at a private company is not about producing results in your name as you would at a university, but rather producing results as a company or as a customer. The various experiences and coordination skills I have cultivated at universities and research institutes are useful in my current work. And it becomes a career weapon.
He concluded his lecture by saying that private companies are also an option, and that he should do his best in job hunting.
Finally, Mr. Fujita, who was Mr. Kobayashi's supervisor, thanked the people who supported Mr. Kobayashi from the long-term internship to finding a job.
After the workshop ended with the above, a social gathering was held where people from companies and students interacted.
