This is the lecture report of the 27rd "Highly Specialized Career Formation Theory I/II" (FYXNUMX)
2015.06.23
On June XNUMX, XNUMX (Thursday), the XNUMX XNUMXrd Advanced Specialized Career Formation Theory was held in Room XNUMXA, Building XNUMX, Shinagawa Campus.
“Young doctoral talents are active in national research institutes and local fisheries administration”
Mr. Tomohito Imaizumi, Ph.D., Fixed Term Researcher, Research Institute of Fisheries Engineering, Fisheries Research Agency
Mr. Naoto Hirakawa, Ph.D. (Marine Science) Deputy Chief, Soma Branch, Fukushima Prefectural Fisheries Office
At the beginning, Mr. Kanda gave an opening address, and then Mr. Shiotani introduced the biographies of the two lecturers today.
Mr. Imaizumi took the podium first and said that he has been researching the sound of dolphins since his university days, and is currently conducting research in the field of hydroacoustic engineering in order to connect it to industry.
Next, there was an explanation of the organization of the Fisheries Engineering Research Institute of the Fisheries Research Agency, and the various researches that I am currently involved in.
As a policy, I think that "I only have one life, so I want to do what I like".When I decided to go to college, I was thinking of getting a doctorate. He collected dolphin sounds as an undergraduate student, artificially output them as a master's student, and developed an application system as a doctoral student.
Considering that I got into the water research institute, I think my life has been blessed with luck. After four years as a PD and three years as an associate researcher at the Water Research Institute, I plan to become a full-time researcher from August this year.Contracts for part-time PDs are generally terminated after five years, but at the Water Research Institute, three years is the upper limit.
Regarding the visualization of marine resources using sound, there was an explanation of the technology and characteristics of distinguishing fish species using differences in timbre.
While there are many failures in research, when things go well, I feel a great sense of accomplishment.I believe this is the reason why I continue my research. He continues his research with the aim of disseminating the technology so that it can be indirectly useful to people.A doctoral degree is the first step to becoming a researcher, and I think that in Japan, it is necessary to have a modest way of thinking that it is just a qualification.
He concluded his lecture by saying, ``The basis of my research is the connection between people, and I want people to live each day without regrets.''
We then moved on to the question and answer session.
Q: When did you realize that your research could be put to use in society?
A: I felt that way when I was a master's student. His encounter with a good teacher was the impetus for her to pursue her research. (Mr. Imaizumi)
Q: If the researcher is married, will he/she be understood about his/her daily life and work?
A: I feel blessed to have an understanding spouse. (Mr. Imaizumi)
Next, Mr. Shiotani introduced the biography of Mr. Hirakawa, who was born in Iwaki City, Fukushima Prefecture.
Mr. Hirakawa took the podium and introduced the work of a fisheries-related local government official, followed by an explanation of Mr. Hirakawa's job as a fisheries promotion instructor.
The work of fisheries extension instructors is to think about fisheries issues together with fishermen and to act as a bridge between the government and fisheries. As a matter of fact, it is not always possible to utilize the expertise of a doctor as a local government employee, but I would like you to consider it as one of your future options.Fukushima Prefecture is recruiting five people this year, and this trend is likely to continue for some time. Also, the age limit is XNUMX, so I think it's good news for PD.
There was an introduction about the research of Mexicali, which was fun when I was a student.
Around the time I entered DXNUMX, I began to think about my career path after graduation, but I didn't know what to do.By the time I graduated, I was fortunate enough to be approached by several PDs.In the end, he became a PD at the Hokkaido Fisheries Research Institute, and began researching cod and atka mackerel. However, seeing an unstable employment environment that was beyond my ability, my anxiety increased, and I decided to take the local civil service examination.
After passing the test in Fukushima Prefecture, he began researching abalone and sea urchin at the Fisheries Research Institute.Since then, he has been working as a fisheries promotion instructor, but has not been involved in research. In general, even if he is assigned to a research institute, it does not mean that he can do the research he likes. In addition, there will be a reassignment in three to five years, and it will be necessary to go back and forth between research and administration.
Mr. Hirakawa explained that he had conducted a survey on the impact of the Great East Japan Earthquake, along with the extent of the damage, and that Mr. Hirakawa was involved in activities to support the recovery of the fishing industry.
Now, four years after the earthquake, test operations have started, and after confirming the safety of marine products, they are shipped nationwide, and the number of species subject to test operations is on the rise.Reconstruction is progressing steadily.
Finally, he concluded today's lecture by saying, "Next year, please take the Fukushima Prefecture Local Civil Service Examination, and let's work together."
We then moved on to the question and answer session.
Q: What was the background to the introduction of the PD at Hokusoken for the first time?
A: It was introduced by a professor at Marine University. He had been on the Umitaka Maru, so he was acquainted with many of the professors at the school.I think he was lucky to get an introduction. (Mr. Hirakawa)
Finally, Mr. Shiotani asked both lecturers a question.
Q: How did you attract a good career for yourself?
A: It was good that we did joint research with the manufacturer.I believe that it is important for a doctor not only to promote the fields that you know, but also to work on your weak fields as an expert. (Mr. Imaizumi)
Q: Why did you quit Hokusoken after one year?
A: This industry is unstable and relies heavily on luck.I was worried about a research job that I could not do my best.Instead, he chose the path of a stable local government employee. (Mr. Hirakawa)
