'What was the deciding factor? What helped you find a job? 』
Specially Appointed Professor Kazumi Shiotani (Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology Career Development Office)
Following the opening remarks by Director Kanda, Specially Appointed Professor Shiotani explained the purpose of today's lecture.
Six seniors who finished job hunting this year will talk about their experiences. This year's job-hunting program was pushed back by three months, but in reality, many companies responded in the same way as last year, and students actually started job-hunting early.
Next, six seniors took turns on stage and announced their job hunting experiences.
First, Mr. Yoshihiko Fujita (MCXNUMX) was announced.
I chose a company based on what I wanted to do, focusing on the industry, rather than just focusing on my academic achievements. At an industry-wide seminar, I researched the actual situation of the company I wanted to work for.The free job interview consultation was also helpful in learning about my habits. In the interview, I think the reason I got the job offer was that I didn't just answer the questions, but I spoke to the extent that I couldn't get used to it.And you need to be aware that your enthusiasm will be conveyed to the other party.I think it's good to be conscious of meeting various people, listening to their stories, and being watched by others.
Next, Daichi Sugawara (MCXNUMX) was announced.
I started job hunting with a summer internship.Looking at applicants from other universities with the eyes of her peers, she was helpful in choosing a company.I chose the company that was my first choice because it had high technical capabilities and I sympathized with its philosophy. It is important to talk a lot with teachers and friends and get them to look at your application documents objectively. At the interview, I felt that it was important to communicate in a fun, easy-to-understand, and interesting way. I believe that my efforts to understand the company through visits to alumni have led to my success. It was a job hunting that draws connections.
Next, Kanae Igawa (MCXNUMX) was announced.
I think that the company that could not write the ES well was not the company that suited me.It's also a good idea to take a closer look at applicants from other universities and decide if the company is a good fit for you. There are many good companies in the area.I would recommend the U/I turn to people who think it would be better if there was less competition within the company, greater discretion for each individual, and less overtime.I think the decisive factor in getting the job offer was not to overdo it.It was stressful to pursue job hunting and research at the same time, but I found a solution while consulting with my academic advisor.
Next, Mr. Katsuaki Shibuya (MCXNUMX) was announced
I couldn't narrow down the industry, and I didn't get a job offer, so I ended up applying to many companies. My job hunting experience at other companies and my interview skills helped me sell myself well. I think that the decisive factor in the offer was the strong will to work here.Job hunting was a good opportunity to look at myself objectively through self-analysis.In industry research, I felt that it was important to narrow down the companies I really wanted to go to.Job hunting alone can be depressing, so I want you to incorporate school work and play as well.
Next, Yuki Saito (MCXNUMX) was announced.
If you try to be both a public servant and a private company, you'll be half-hearted and you won't be able to get into it, so it's better to focus on one or the other.Rather than attending a joint briefing, it is better to attend a briefing at the head office and actually talk to employees.I decided to join the company because I was attracted to the lively work of the employees I met at the briefing session.I think that making the most of my personality and appealing my experience at the University of Marine Science and Technology was the decisive factor in getting the job offer. I think the best thing to do is to look for a workplace where you can work in the future, thinking about what you'll be like in XNUMX or XNUMX years.
Next, Masahiro Tehashi (MCXNUMX) was announced.
I wanted to get a job offer, so I applied to both civil servants and private companies. She participated in a joint briefing session within the school to increase her motivation.Exam preparation and interview preparation are completely different for private companies and public servants.Cheerfulness and optimism are required throughout interviews for civil servants, and a smile is important.Preparation is XNUMX% of job hunting, and it is good to start with a broad survey and then gradually narrow it down. It's also important to find comrades and people you can talk to.By having individual points of contact with the company to which you apply, it becomes easier to write your motivation for applying.
Finally, Mr. Shiotani gave a concluding remark.
What the six seniors have in common is that they started job hunting at an early age and narrowed down the companies to some extent in the preparation stage. Then, around May or June, an unofficial decision will be made. Job hunting is the only time when you have the opportunity to face yourself and think about how you will work five or ten years from now, and it is also an opportunity for you to grow.During the interview, the company looks at the future growth potential of the person and whether they can enjoy working together. And we want to hire people who have the ability to think independently and to persevere.
He concluded by saying, "It's important to listen to people who have no interest in you, so please feel free to come to the Career Development Office for advice."
