Professor Emeritus Kuniaki Shoji, graduates Masanori Yoshida and Shisei Kamei received the Yamagata Katsumi Award.
Professor Emeritus Kuniaki Shoji and graduates Masanori Yoshida and Shisei Kamei have been awarded the 2 Yamagata Katsumi Award.
The award is presented by the Yamagata Memorial Foundation.The foundation honors those who have contributed to the research, dissemination and development of maritime traffic culture.
Mr. Yoshida and Mr. Kamei received the Best Paper Award for their doctoral dissertation, and Professor Emeritus Shoji received the Distinguished Service Award.

Biography:After graduating from the Faculty of Engineering, Kobe University, entered the Ministry of Transport (now the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism).After working as an assistant director of the Maritime Bureau and as a visiting researcher at the Norwegian FNI, he became the director of the International Affairs Office of the Maritime Bureau's Ship Industry Division.He completed the UCL (MSc) in the UK and completed the doctoral course at Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology.
Reason for selection:With respect to autonomous ships, for which legal and regulatory development is being actively studied, this paper is expected to be a useful resource in presenting future technology development strategies to overcome international competition, based on the technology development methods of other countries, which are promoting technological development as well as direction toward social implementation. - Mr. Shisei Kamei (Completed doctoral course at Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology)

Biography:After graduating from Tokyo University of Mercantile Marine, worked at Eastern Car Liner Co., Ltd., worked as a teacher at Kanagawa Prefectural Marine Science High School, and became an associate professor at Toyama National College of Technology, Department of Merchant Marine.He completed the doctoral program at Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology.His specialties are loading theory and ship safety.
