Marine AI/Data Science Degree Program Policy

Admission policy

1.Interest and motivation required of students to be accepted

In this degree program, with a global perspective and a background of deep expertise and field experience in ocean-related fields, students will use big data and artificial intelligence to address various issues in ocean-related fields and lead social implementation. We are looking for people with a strong desire to become outstanding doctoral candidates.

2. Academic achievements expected of accepted students

(knowledge/skills)
(1) Acquisition of basic specialized knowledge in ocean-related fields necessary for learning specialized fields in each major of the graduate school and skills necessary for carrying out research cultivated through experiments and exercises, etc.
(2) Literacy ability in data science to utilize big data and artificial intelligence

(Thinking ability, judgment ability, expression ability, etc.)
(3) Broad education and international/cultural background required of globally active human resources
(4) Expressive ability to convey one's thoughts to others in an easy-to-understand manner

(Attitude to learn independently and in cooperation with diverse people)
(5) An attitude of being able to learn from each other in a cross-disciplinary and interdisciplinary manner beyond one's major.
(6) Willingness to proactively communicate with domestic and international marine-related industries and take the lead in collaborating to solve various issues.

3.Evaluation method for admission selection

In order to select students who are suitable for the "human resources we are looking for," we conduct a document review as the first selection, and then comprehensively evaluate them based on their undergraduate grades, reasons for applying, research plans, etc. In addition, an interview will be conducted as a second selection, and a presentation and Q&A will be conducted regarding the submitted research plan to comprehensively evaluate the applicant's academic ability and research ability as well as their understanding and motivation for this degree program.

Curriculum policy

1. Policy for organizing the curriculum

In the first half of the program, we will create a curriculum in which students will acquire specialized knowledge in each major field, acquire theory and practical skills regarding data analysis and artificial intelligence, and learn how to approach various issues through collaboration with different fields. . In addition, upon completion of the first semester program, we utilize a doctoral thesis research basic ability examination to develop human resources through a five-year curriculum.
In the latter half of the program, students will acquire highly specialized knowledge in ocean-related fields in a comprehensive and interdisciplinary manner, as well as develop practical skills to solve various issues in ocean-related fields by utilizing big data and artificial intelligence. Organize.

2. Policies regarding educational content and educational implementation methods

In the first semester of the program, students learn the basics of big data and artificial intelligence from theory to practice through lectures and practice subjects that are common to the program, and learn how to approach actual issues in ocean-related companies, research institutions, etc. through workshop subjects. Masu.
In the latter half of the program, students will learn to further utilize big data and artificial intelligence, as well as acquire practical methods and assessment skills related to social implementation. In addition, as part of the compulsory residency, students will undertake a long-term internship at an actual development site and acquire the ability to implement social implementation.

diploma policy

XNUMX.Human resource image to aim for
Based on our university's specialized knowledge and extensive field experience, we will train highly specialized engineers and ocean policy planners who will accurately utilize big data and artificial intelligence and lead their social implementation.

2. Goals for the abilities and background that students should acquire
In addition to the diploma policy for each major of the graduate school, we aim to have the following abilities and backgrounds.
(1) Have acquired the scientific knowledge and skills necessary for social implementation regarding data science such as data analysis and machine learning.
(2) Be able to clearly understand the issues to which big data and artificial intelligence should be applied in each specialized field, and plan and propose applied technologies to solve those issues.
(3)Be able to scientifically evaluate the effectiveness and validity of the application of big data and artificial intelligence to social issues.
(4) Ability to make appropriate decisions and disseminate information based on data analysis and machine learning results

Three.Completion certification/degree award policy
The requirements for completing the program are to complete the prescribed courses and earn the necessary credits, and to meet the requirements for completing the master's program at the graduate school and the requirements for completing the doctoral program. For students enrolled in this program, for the completion requirements of the master's program, the master's thesis can be replaced by the doctoral thesis basic competency examination (QE).
However, those enrolled in the doctoral program will be required to complete the required credits by taking the prescribed courses and fulfilling the requirements for completing the doctoral program.
A doctoral degree (engineering/marine science) will be awarded to those who meet these requirements. Those who complete the first semester program and meet the requirements for completing the master's program will be awarded a master's degree (engineering/marine science).
