Geochemical modelling of carbonate-containing mine wastewatersMnStudy of precipitation mechanism
[Details of award-winning research]
Mine wastewater containing high concentrations of heavy metals is still being generated in abandoned mines in Japan, and huge costs are being incurred for its treatment. In order to improve the treatment technology for manganese, which is a particularly difficult element to treat, we are conducting chemical reaction rate analysis using geochemical codes and the interaction between manganese precipitation and carbonate ions in the mine wastewater treatment system.XLinear absorption fine structure analysis (XAFS)The results were based on the analysis of the precipitates.Mn-HCO3By the generation of ionic speciesMn(II)The oxidation reaction mechanism of was clarified.
