Title: Study on the fishing ability of artificial baits for pelagic longline fishing
In pelagic longline fishing, artificial baits are sometimes used as a countermeasure against rising fuel and bait prices, but there are many unknowns regarding the fishing ability of artificial baits and the attracting effect of luminous objects used in combination with them.986 tIn a test operation of pelagic longline fishing by the Iberian Fishing Association (IFA), video loggers were attached to live bait and artificial bait, and the details of the feeding behavior of the creatures and the catch results of the operation were analyzed according to the presence or absence of luminous objects. As a result, although the number of main target fish caught was slightly lower with artificial bait, there was no bycatch of sea turtles or seabirds, and the bite of the squid-shaped artificial bait was 100% after the line was cast.2Based on the results that occurred within hours, we focused on the luminescence of the artificial bait and showed the changes over time, and from these results we made recommendations on the appropriate way to use the artificial bait.

Title: Sea bottom sweep area of ??trawl nets in Osaka Bay
It is expected that bottom trawl nets will be used to recover plastic waste and other debris that accumulates on the seabed. In this study, we conducted a trawl test using a plank net equipped with a sleeve-end distance meter, depth gauge, and current meter, with the main objective of evaluating the recovery capability of bottom trawl nets. We analyzed the gear's contact with the seabed and its shape from the changes in depth of each part during operation, and estimated the area of ??the seabed that was swept. The results revealed in detail the changes in gear shape after casting, and showed that the ground rope had not yet reached the bottom at the time of the increase in propulsive force after casting, which is generally considered to be the start of the trawl. We also suggested that caution be exercised when calculating the area of ??the seabed that was swept, and proposed a countermeasure using the fishing ground depth in surveys where no depth gauges or other instruments were attached.
