Attempt to produce Koshinaga seedlings using ovulated eggs obtained from caught mature females

【research content】
Thunnus tonggol, which belongs to the genus Tuna like bluefin tuna, is expected to efficiently produce bluefin tuna gametes as a host for the bluefin tuna surrogate broodstock technology. However, to date, there have been no reports of seed production for this species, and the exact spawning period and spawning grounds in natural waters have not been determined. Therefore, in this study, we attempted to develop a seedling production technology for Koshinaga moth using mature individuals caught from June to August every year in fixed net fishing on Futoijima, Shimonoseki City, Yamaguchi Prefecture.During sampling of Koshinaga on Futaijima, we obtained a female individual with ovulated eggs, and when we performed artificial insemination, we succeeded in producing fertilized eggs.Furthermore, the produced fertilized eggs were transported to our university's Tateyama Station and raised, and it was confirmed that it was possible to produce artificial seedlings of Koshinaga. As described above, in this study, we succeeded in artificial insemination using eggs obtained from naturally caught mature female individuals, and demonstrated that it is possible to use these to produce seedlings of Koshinaga. In the future, we aim to establish a complete cultivation technique for smallfin tuna using these artificial seedlings and use them as hosts for bluefin tuna surrogate broodstock technology.
