October25On the day of the Faculty of Marine Resources and Environment1~3Annual30Name and faculty2The group toured the deep-sea drilling vessel Chikyu, which was moored at Shimizu Port in Shizuoka Prefecture.

The ship is operated by the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC) and is operated by the International Tonnage5Ten thousand6752Ton, Overall Length210It is Japan's largest scientific drilling vessel, measuring 1.5 meters in length.2005Since its launch in 2000, as the flagship vessel of the International Ocean Discovery Program, it has achieved a variety of results, conducting drilling research into large earthquake zones, the underground biosphere, and seafloor mineral resources.

The tour on board includes a look at the special drilling equipment, navigation equipment, and core samples taken.(Strata Samples)They observed how the data is processed and analyzed. On the bridge, they were particularly inspired by the opportunity to hear explanations directly from a graduate of our university working on the Chikyu, and to see their seniors at work up close. They also experienced the size of the ship, which cannot be understood from photos, and the extensive research facilities that would be unimaginable on board, making this a good experience that will encourage them in their future studies.

20174The Faculty of Marine Resources and Environment, which opened in April, aims to foster talented people who can learn about the compatibility of marine environmental conservation and marine resource utilization, and about marine environmental conservation and resource and energy exploration, development, and utilization, and who can play an active role in practical matters.2019This time, we have not been able to visit the museum since 2013.JAMSTECWe would like to thank all those involved for their cooperation.5I was able to visit for the first time in years.
