By acquiring the latest knowledge and technology related to the diagnosis, control and prevention of farmed fish and shellfish and knowledge of the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) disease control system, we will develop core human resources who will be involved in international epidemic control of fish and shellfish infectious diseases. Recruitment target

Those who intend to carry out the research for obtaining a doctoral degree in this major in three years, and immediately after completing the course or in the future, will be able to work with the national or local governments, research institutes, educational institutions such as universities, or private companies in their own country. Applicants are those who wish to be involved in guidance, research, education, and implementation of the international quarantine of similar infectious diseases.Any nationality is welcome.

Human Resource Development Program for Transboundary Fish and Shellfish Infectious Disease Prevention

Outline of program

The program aims to develop human resources involved in international control of fish and shellfish transboundary infectious diseases by learning the latest knowledge and technology on diagnosis, control and prevention of fish and shellfish diseases as well as knowledge on worldwide disease management of the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE).

Application qualification

Those who have strong wills to accomplish their research in three years. Students also intend to work the guidance, research, education and implementation of transboundary fish and shellfish infectious disease control in their home country's national/local government, research institute, educational institution such as a university, or private company after the course completion or in the future. Those premises should be fulfilled when students apply this special course. (Regardless of nationality for Self-financed students)

Program contents

In addition to completing the requirements of the course, it is mandatory to participate in the following activities:

(1) "Advanced Aquatic Pathology" (Credit required for course completion).
(2) "Marine Science and Technology Special Seminar" (Credit required for course completion).
(3) An internship activity at the OIE Regional Representation for Asia and the Pacific (Tokyo).
(4) An internship activity at Pathology Division, Aquatic Research Department, Fisheries Technology Institute, Japan Fisheries Research and Education Agency (Mie Prefecture).
