The second ultra-deep sea talk event “Challenge to humanity’s last frontier “ultra deep sea”” will be held (free)
We will be holding the second talk event for the special exhibition "Tobira to the Ultra-Deep Sea: The Path of Our Research" currently being held at the Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology Marine Science Museum. This time, we will talk about exploration technology that continues to evolve with the development of deep sea research. What kind of submersibles and research equipment are needed to investigate the ultra-deep sea at depths of over 6,000 meters?
On the day of the event, the closing time of the Marine Science Museum will be extended until 19:16 pm (usually closed at XNUMX:XNUMX pm on weekdays), and after the talk event, the speakers will introduce the exhibits at the museum.illuminated whaleYou can also view the gallery.

Message | The "ultra-deep sea," which extends beyond 6000 m (or 6500 m) in the ocean, is a frontier that humans have difficulty reaching.Last year, on the Pressure Drop voyage that we participated in, a 8,336K video camera attached to a stationary robot lander captured images of the world's deepest fish living at XNUMX meters in the Ogasawara Trench. The challenge to humanity's last frontier, the ultra-deep sea, full of various mysteries, is supported by scientific curiosity about the deep sea and outstanding technological development. This talk show will focus on technology that is the driving force behind deep-sea research, and our guest will be Kazumasa Oguri, associate professor at the Ultra-Deep Sea Research Center at the University of Southern Denmark, who has developed deep-sea research equipment himself and is promoting research using it. We invite you to talk about the history, present, and future of deep-sea research from the perspective of technological development. We will also talk about the current state of technological development at Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology, the exhibits that we would especially like to see at the special exhibition that is being held until November 11th, and what we are trying to tackle in the future. |
