2022 Joint Symposium of Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology and Shanghai University of Marine Science and Technology was held

International exchange / study abroad

On November 4, 11, our university and Shanghai Ocean University (SHOU) held an international joint symposium titled "Smart Logistics Technologies Converged with Transportation and Logistics for the New Era".

Since the first joint symposium was held in 2006, it has been held alternately in Tokyo and Shanghai almost every year, and this is the 1th symposium.

As with last year, this year's event was held online in light of restrictions on movement due to the novel coronavirus, with a total of 78 participants from both universities.

The symposium opened with opening remarks by Masashi Maita, Executive Vice President (Education and International Affairs) of Soka University, and was moderated by Assistant Professor Haiyun Wu of Soka University. Under the moderation of (engineering academy), 3 faculty members from each university alternately 6 from each university (our university: Associate Professor Takanori Sakai, Professor Daisuke Watanabe, Professor Yutaka Watanabe, Shanghai Ocean University: Associate Professor Liu Mingwei, Lecturer Liang Hejun, Lecturer Guo Wenwen) made research presentations, and after each presentation, there was a lively question-and-answer session and an exchange of opinions.

At the end of the symposium, Vice President Jiang Min delivered a closing address and expressed his hopes for the feasibility of mutual visits in the future, bringing the symposium to a successful conclusion.

At this symposium, we will discuss how to speed up information transmission related to logistics, advance information management and analysis, improve cargo security, address labor shortages in logistics, improve the working environment, and solve problems and increase efficiency in logistics as a whole. It was a very meaningful opportunity for faculty members from both schools to introduce their research results and exchange opinions toward solving issues that both Japan and China face in building next-generation logistics systems such as chemical transformation.
