Associate Professor Yuko Takeyama Returning to Japan Report (Overseas Research by Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology Overseas Dispatch Program for Young Researchers in 2)
I was staying as a visiting researcher at the wind power generation department of the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) for one year from December 2021, so I would like to report on that.Denmark is a pioneer country in wind power generation in the world, and many related studies are being conducted. My office was located on the DTU Ris? campus in Roskilde, about 12 minutes by train from the capital Copenhagen.
In recent years, I have been researching advanced sea wind measurements using satellite-mounted microwave sensors.Wind information is essential for the construction of offshore wind farms. However, it is not easy to inexpensively and accurately measure ocean winds, which are difficult to access. Therefore, we are planning to contribute to offshore wind power generation by using satellite data that observes the earth's surface from space to measure ocean winds.During my stay in Denmark, I conducted research on the relationship between long-term wind speed fluctuations and water temperature using satellite data, and developed an algorithm for estimating wind speed from newly developed satellite sensor data.
I was able to concentrate on my research in a favorable environment where excellent researchers in the same field were in the same office.I am grateful to have been given such an opportunity.
