The delegation was welcomed by President Toshio Iseki, Executive Vice President for Education and International Affairs Masashi Maita, and Professor Yutaka Haga and Associate Professor Masato Endo of the Marine Bioresources Department.
President Iseki congratulated President Thinh on his appointment as the new president in December last year, and also expressed his gratitude for the signing ceremony for the International Exchange Agreement between the two universities held at Can Tho University in August last year and the warm hospitality shown to President Iseki and his team at the time. He also expressed his expectations for strengthening research and student exchange between the two universities in the future.
Rector Thinh expressed his gratitude for the efforts of our university's Professor Emeritus Yuji Tanaka, who has been dispatched to Can Tho University as JICA's chief advisor for the JICA Project "Strengthening Industry-Government-Academia Collaboration for Sustainable Development in the Mekong Delta Region under Climate Change," which began in 2022, and for the dispatch of Professor Haga and Associate Professor Endo to Can Tho University through the same project.
After reviewing the past exchange records between the two universities, both sides agreed that securing opportunities for students to study abroad is important for future human resource development, and they actively exchanged opinions on how to further cooperate. Secretary Phong also stated that the Vietnamese government will fully support the cooperation between the two universities.
Afterwards, the group visited the laboratories of Professor Haga and Associate Professor Endo.
Can Tho University is a national comprehensive university located in Can Tho, the largest city in the Mekong Delta region of Vietnam. Since signing an international exchange agreement with the university in 2012 and a memorandum of understanding on student exchange in 2013, we have built a very close collaborative relationship through the dispatch of faculty members and the acceptance of students through JICA projects and other programs.
Our university will continue to further strengthen collaboration and cooperation with Can Tho University.
