President Toshio Iseki, Associate Professor Yuko Takeyama (Division of Marine Resources and Energy) and Associate Professor Hiroko Makita (Division of Marine Environmental Science) visited the University of Southern Denmark and the Technical University of Denmark from November 2024th to 11th, 28.
Both the University of Southern Denmark and the Technical University of Denmark are major partner universities in the METIS Program (officially named the Japan-Nordic Collaborative Program of Marine Education toward the Innovation and Sustainability), which was selected as part of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's 2024 "Re-inventing Japan as a University" initiative. The visit was intended to allow President Iseki to report on the selection of the METIS Program and to discuss future exchanges with the two universities.
After the signing ceremony for the international exchange agreement at the University of Southern Denmark, the delegation met with Professor Gary Banta, Head of the Department of Biology, Professor Ronnie N. Glud, who is also a cross-appointment faculty member at our university, and Associate Professor Kazumasa Oguri, liaison faculty member at the University of Southern Denmark, to exchange views on promoting student exchange between the two universities through the METIS program.
At the Technical University of Denmark, he met with Dean Christine Nellemann, Professor Hans Norgaard Hansen, Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, and Associate Professor Urik Dam Nielsen at the main Lyngby campus, where they shared the achievements of the currently cooperating Graduate Schools and exchanged opinions on future student exchanges. Afterwards, he moved to the Ris? campus and met with Professor Lena Kitzing, Professor Jakob Mann, and Professor Charlotte Bay Hasager, Heads of the Wind Energy Systems Division, to look back on the achievements of researcher exchanges to date and discuss the acceptance of internship students in the future.
Through President Iseki's visits to both universities, the two universities exchanged views on future researcher and student exchanges, as well as cooperation in the METIS program, and will continue to promote these efforts.
Our university will continue to work with both schools to further cooperation in the maritime field between Denmark and Japan.
