Training ship Shiojimaru
Expected educational effect
As exemplified by the International Maritime Organization's electronic navigation strategy, the use of IT in ship operations is advancing for safe and efficient maritime transport. , Marine BB (Broad Band) communication, electronic navigation, advanced navigation control, advanced ship management system, etc. can be used for training ship training, enabling hands-on training.
Ship operation requires a large amount of fuel, and the emission of exhaust gas from marine engines can cause air and sea pollution. However, if advanced navigation technology is used to efficiently operate and operate ships, it will be possible to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, save energy, and reduce the burden on the environment.Utilizing the Shioji Maru owned by our university, we will provide green and innovation education using cutting-edge navigation technology to our students and students of the universities that use it. By sending it to maritime-related companies, maritime educational institutions, maritime-related government agencies, etc., it will be possible to operate ships in consideration of the reduction of fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, and contribute to the realization of a low-carbon society.
Facility usage plan
In principle, all experimental voyages of the Shioji Maru will be provided for joint use.The form of shared use will be “single voyage” and “shared voyage” using spare seats on experimental voyages.Experimental training guarantees the same educational opportunities and effects for students of the university and those of the participating universities. In addition, in principle, other universities will use training ships for practical training, etc., and credits will be recognized.
Experimental practice conducted using the application facility is as follows.
(1)Navigation watch practice using navigation instruments
A team consisting of 5 people (captain, port and starboard duty, steering duty, and CPP duty) will be formed, and they will practice operating the ship along a predetermined course. It is important to observe the movements of other ships by keeping a visual lookout and using navigational instruments such as radar to prevent danger of approaching or colliding with other ships, and to maneuver the ship so as not to become an obstacle to other ships. is.There are many things to learn in this practical training, such as navigation, regulations, operation of navigation instruments, etc., but the most important factor is to achieve goals through collaborative work.In other words, the role of the captain needs to obtain the necessary information from each person on duty and give instructions on the necessary maneuvers by giving precise orders. It is necessary to understand and anticipate and provide necessary information in a timely manner.
In addition to boarding, navigational watch training has a very high learning effect during the preparation (lecture) stage. In other words, it is necessary to confirm in advance the navigation rules, regulations, turning points, etc., of the sea area in which the ship will actually navigate, to carry out actual ship maneuvering smoothly, and to make careful preparations so that it can respond to unforeseen circumstances with ample time to spare. This is very effective for mastering the ability to formulate a plan and the ability to discover problems hidden therein.
(2) Maneuverability test using measurement equipment
The test items are the turning test and the Z test, which are actual ship test methods that are also incorporated into the maneuverability standards of the IMO (International Maritime Organization).Students are divided into steering staff, azimuth measurement staff, speed measurement staff, rudder angle measurement staff, and stopwatch staff, and actually steer the Shioji Maru and measure data.In this practical training, not only is teamwork important, as in the practical training on navigational watch, but in addition to the control performance as knowledge, the students can experience the acceleration that accompanies the maneuvering motion, so that the students can understand the contents of the experiment. motivation is very high.In order to enhance the educational effect of the Shioji Maru, computer measurements are intentionally not used, and the students themselves read each instrument and record it in their notebooks. In the analysis of experimental data, not only comparison with IMO maneuverability standards, but also estimation of maneuverability index (turning index and trackability index) by graphical solution method promotes understanding of ship maneuverability theory. .
(3) Engine characteristic experiment aiming at energy saving
On the Shioji Maru, ship speed, fuel consumption, thrust, and temperatures of lubricating oil, fresh cooling water, and seawater circulating in the main engine can be measured, and engine efficiency can be obtained from these parameters. In addition, since engine efficiency varies depending on ship speed, propeller pitch, wind, waves, tidal currents, etc., the effects of ship speed, propeller pitch, wind, waves, tidal currents, etc. on the engine efficiency of the Shioji Maru, which has a variable-pitch propeller, were examined. can.
This experiment is currently being conducted in the "ship experiment" of the Department of Marine Electronics and Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Marine Engineering, and provides students with a place to learn about and think about efficient navigation through engine characteristic experiments. If we try to operate with high engine efficiency, we can not only reduce fuel consumption and operating costs, but also reduce exhaust gas from the main engine, contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gases that the government advocates. In the shared use, students will conduct experiments to determine engine efficiency and consider the optimal operating conditions for ship operation from the perspectives of environmental load reduction and economics.Through these experiments, we will train maritime engineers who can operate engines with consideration for energy conservation and environmental pollution prevention, and human resources who can research and develop energy-saving technology and environmental technology for ship operation.
(4) Real-time control system experiment
From 2008 to 2010, the Faculty of Ocean Engineering, Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology received support for educational reform projects as part of a special expense project, ``Development research and human resource development for advanced navigation science and technology for ships using information technology (IT)''. Research and development of communications, electronic navigation, advanced operational control, advanced ship management systems, etc. have been carried out, and educational systems and curricula have been constructed that actually use them, and are used in actual undergraduate education. The educational contents that can be provided as a joint use base are those conducted in the course subjects of "Marine System Engineering Experiment Exercise" at this university, and students can control by using the software MATLAB / Simulink widely used for control system design. Design practice.
First, students design the control using a laptop computer in the classroom area, and fully confirm the safety and effectiveness of the control design simulator.Next, the developed control program will be boarded on the Shioji Maru to conduct an actual ship test. The Shiojimaru is equipped with a real-time control system that can use MATLAB/Simulink, so students can run their own programs simply by connecting their laptops to the server computer. The effectiveness of the control experiment practice using the training ship is reflected in the increased motivation of the students to work on it, and it is not uncommon for students to work all night to solve problems. It can be said that this shows that it is very effective in cultivating the "thinking ability" of the "basic ability for a member of society."
(5) Environment-friendly ship operation experiment exercise using advanced navigation system (implemented by NPO)
The central part of this system is located in the Faculty of Ocean Engineering, Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology. Various information collected from the training ship Shiojimaru, land radar station, land AIS station, Kyoto University weather support site, etc. is compiled into a database and stored on multiple monitors and personal computers. information is displayed on theThe large monitor can display vessel information in Tokyo Bay, and has a real-time display that allows you to grasp the current situation of vessels in the bay, and a playback display function that can reproduce and display past situations. It is also used in class to grasp changes inThe Shioji Maru is equipped with a system for real-time communication of radar images, navigation and engine information via satellite, and it is possible to communicate with land using a video conference function. Therefore, it is possible to effectively conduct not only training on board, but also training in two groups, one on board and one on land, and one on land only.
The following can be considered as the content of possible experiments and exercises.
- Maritime Traffic Safety Assessment
It is possible to monitor the congestion of ship traffic by sea area and time zone in Tokyo Bay, and evaluate the risk of approach and collision from various angles based on the matching relationship between ships. - Weather routing exercise
Based on real-time measurement results of wind, waves, tidal currents, etc. and forecast results from a weather database, experiments will be conducted to predict and measure the fuel consumption of the Shioji Maru and the voyage time to its destination.
