Kesennuma City and Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology Collaborative Project "The 2rd Series of Fisheries Seminars to Live with the Sea" Held

2021/ 1/ 18

On January 2021, 1 (Thursday), we held the 14nd “Live with the Sea” Continuous Fisheries Seminar this season. From this season, as a countermeasure against the new coronavirus infectious disease, it was possible to view the large screen at the venue and take the "online course", and a total of 2 people participated.

The lecturer was Mitsuru Izumi (Professor, Department of Marine Resources and Energy, Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology). I gave a lecture on the future of chemistry.

Currently, the disappearance of seaweed beds from the coast due to environmental changes, known as "isoyake," is a serious problem. The cause of this is the abnormal occurrence of sea urchins, and in order to solve this problem, three universities, Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology, Tohoku University, and Miyagi University, are working together with Miyagi Prefecture and private companies to utilize underwater robots. He explained the introduction of efficient extermination technology for sea urchins. In the lecture, we introduced how we collected sea urchins using an underwater robot in Shizugawa Bay in collaboration with the Miyagi Prefectural Fisheries Federation Shizugawa Branch Youth Division and the Tokura Youth Research Institute.

There are also reports on the effective use of sea urchins collected during extermination, including the development of methods for fattening sea urchins on land using aquaculture feed using sea urchin residues, and the development of mechanization technology from shelling sea urchins to sorting the shelled sea urchins. Thank you for your explanation.

Thank you to everyone who participated.

In addition, Mr. Takahiro Matsui (Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology, Department of Ocean Policy and Culture, Associate Professor) is scheduled to be the 3rd seminar on "Living with the Sea" Series of Fisheries Seminars.

Details will be announced again on the Sanriku Satellite website.
