We cooperated in dispatching lecturers to the "web study session on decarbonization" sponsored by the northern bonito and tuna fishery association in Miyagi prefecture.

December 2021, 11

This event is sponsored by the northern Miyagi prefecture bonito and tuna fisheries association next to the Sanriku satellite office. It was held in a series of three times with the aim of deepening knowledge and taking countermeasures against.

The first lecture (held on September 9) was given by Associate Professor Taro Oishi of the Department of Ocean Policy and Culture under the title of "Responding to carbon neutrality in the fisheries industry."He gave a lecture on what the basic concept of carbon neutrality is, how to achieve carbon neutrality, and international and domestic trends toward a decarbonized society.

The lecturer for the second session (held on October 10) is Dr. Hiroyasu Kifune, Associate Professor of the Department of Marine Electronics and Mechanical Engineering. From the viewpoint of greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction and ship energy saving, he explained how to review the mechanism and operation method of the electric propulsion system.

The third and final lecture (held on November 11th) is Professor Hisaharu Sakai, Department of Marine Resources and Energy.Mr. Sakai has been indebted to Kesennuma City for a series of seminars, "The Marine and Living Fisheries Seminar," and has a deep connection with Kesennuma. This time, it was held at the Kesennuma venue because the number of infections in the city is decreasing and the vaccination of the new corona vaccine is progressing. Entitled "Efforts of fishing boats and fisheries for a decarbonized society", it details the possibility of introducing energy that does not involve carbonization emissions and energy saving of fishing boats to reduce CO29 emission intensity as a response to carbon neutrality. Thank you for the explanation.

While the government has set a new goal to realize a decarbonized society that will reduce greenhouse gas emissions to zero by 2050 (carbon neutral by 2050), the northern bonito and tuna fishery association in Miyagi Prefecture is working to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. We plan to continue our study sessions on various initiatives for the future.

The Sanriku Satellite will continue to connect regional issues and research issues, and strive to contribute to regional development and society.
