In 21, Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology issued the “Gender Equality Action Declaration” and established the Gender Equality Promotion Office.Furthermore, in August 23, the Organization for Supporting Female Researchers "Umi Nami" was established with the aim of supporting female researchers facing life events and improving their working environment. After being selected for the Female Researcher Research Activity Support Project, we have expanded the scope of our activities as follows.

1. Construction and operation of human support system (RS system)
2. Mental support by opening a consultation salon orange room for the purpose of career development support
3. Opening of the Penguin Room, a support facility for temporary breaks, breastfeeding, and diaper changing
4. From a medium- to long-term perspective, we aim to improve the work-life balance of all faculty members, including male faculty members.Hold targeted awareness-raising seminars and symposiums
5. Development of various publicity tools for the purpose of dissemination of information on support systems and personnel systems

As the number of female researchers is expected to increase in the future, it is expected that the needs for the services of the Organization for Women Researchers will grow even more.We will do our best to provide timely and flexible support activities, so we would appreciate your support and cooperation.

What is Umi Nami, Organization for Female Researchers?

The Organization for Women Researchers takes a global perspective on the sea, which is a common asset of mankind, and strives for environmental conservation and coexistence with nature. With this motto, it was established in 2011 (Heisei 23) with the aim of supporting female researchers engaged in research that specializes in the utilization of the ocean as the only marine university in Japan.

Why "Umi Nami"?

The official name is "National University Corporation Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology Gender Equality Promotion Office Female Researcher Support Organization".For the purpose of recognition of the department name, we named the long organization name "Umi Nami".
(The only comprehensive university in Japan with an “ocean” name, named after the “wave” symbol of the university.)
