A testamentary gift is a donation made by a will to a specific person or organization.
Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology has partnered with Mizuho Trust & Banking for those who are considering a bequest.
As a general rule, assets bequeathed to our university are not subject to inheritance tax.

Donation from inherited property
The bereaved family can donate part of the inherited property to Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology at their will.
*If a person who inherits or receives a bequest of assets donates a portion of the assets to Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology, the donated assets will be exempt from inheritance tax. (Our university is a corporation designated by government ordinance under Article 70, Paragraph 1 of the Special Taxation Measures Act (Article 40-3 of the Enforcement Order of the Special Taxation Measures Act).)
*Inheritance tax returns and payments must be made within 10 months from the day after the date on which the inheritance began.
*Please note that depending on the method of donation, it may take some time for the "donation receipt" required for inheritance tax declaration to be issued.
