Purpose of the fund

In order for Japan to develop as a maritime nation and play a role in international contribution, our university, which is the only maritime university in Japan, should be a central base for education and research to "know the sea, protect the sea, and use the sea." and fulfill its mission.Based on this basic perspective, our university conducts comprehensive education and research on the ocean, centered on the training of highly specialized professionals, including researchers. In order to do so, we need to develop more practical skills, the ability to act with a sense of responsibility, practical leadership skills to deal with various issues, problem-searching and problem-solving skills, and a wide range of perspectives and abilities as well as cultural knowledge that serve as the foundation for international exchange. The goal is to develop human resources withPractical education and research using training ships, which is one of the characteristics of our university, plays a major role in achieving this goal. However, due to the rapid changes in the social situation in recent years, external factors such as soaring fuel costs due to fluctuations in crude oil prices and rising prices due to social unrest have made it difficult not only to operate training ships to achieve educational and research goals, but also to ensure safety. We are still struggling with maintenance for navigation (including docking work, etc.).This fund was established not only to support the safe operation of training ships, but also to support the maintenance of the educational and research environment.
