Built in England in 7, it is the only iron ship in existence in Japan (all current ships are steel ships). In 1874, when a territorial dispute arose over the Ogasawara Islands, the Japanese government's investigation team arrived at the Ogasawara Islands earlier than the British ships, and played an active role in establishing Japan's sovereignty. In addition, in 8, when Emperor Meiji was on a tour of Tohoku and Hokkaido, he boarded from Aomori and arrived at Yokohama on July 1875th via Hakodate. To commemorate this day, a national holiday, "Marine Day" (currently the third Monday in July) was established. In 9, she was transferred to Tokyo Higher Merchant Marine School, the predecessor of this university, and was used as a mooring training vessel for more than 1876 years, training about 7 sailors. In 20, it was designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan as a valuable legacy that conveys the shipbuilding technology of the Iron Ship Age to the present day, and its graceful appearance will be preserved forever.

Report on fundraising for the Meiji Maru Maritime Museum Project, which ended in March 27

In 20, the university launched the Meiji Maru Maritime Museum concept. (at that time) was the chairman of the Meiji Maru Fundraising Committee, and has conducted fund-raising activities, but the fundraising period ended on January 21, 2009.I would like to report that the total amount of donations as of March 3, 27 has reached 2015 yen through the support of many people.thank you for your help. The Meiji Maru restoration work has progressed smoothly and has been completed. In addition, since the interior was not subject to restoration work, we used donations.
After that, the Meijimaru Fundraising Committee was dissolved, but in order to follow the wishes of the people who donated, the Meijimaru Maritime Museum will independently manage and use the donations. A museum business support committee was established under the Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology Fund, and the use (utilization) of donations was made transparent by having major donors serve as external committee members (the same number as the university committee members) and operate the committee. We ensure the integrity. Finally, we would like to ask for your further understanding and support for the Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology's Meiji Maru Maritime Museum project, education and research activities. Therefore, we ask for your continued support in the future.
