7/27 Career Path Seminar for female students was held at Etchujima Campus

2018.08.24

On Friday, July 2018, 7, as part of the Summer Open Campus Program of the Faculty of Ocean Engineering, we held a Career Path Seminar for Female Students at the Etchujima Campus (Etchujima Kaikan 27nd Floor Seminar Room). This seminar is aimed at female students who want to learn about the sea and want to work, and is held every year in two parts: a mini lecture and a round-table conference, inviting graduates engaged in marine, maritime, and logistics-related work. doing. The content introduced the reasons why I went to this university, campus life, career paths after graduation, and jobs.

In the senior lectures in the first half, three graduates of the Faculty of Ocean Engineering (Mr. Mayu Fujita from Hitachi Transport System, Mr. Miki Okamoto from NTN Corporation, and Mr. Sonoko Kawashima from the National Institute of Maritime, Port and Aviation Technology Mr.) came and gave a lecture.First, Mr. Fujita (Hitachi Transport System Co., Ltd.) said that when he was a high school student, he wanted to learn about "logistics," which would be useful in the path he wanted to pursue in the future. He said that he chose the Department of Distribution Information Engineering and acquired specialized knowledge, which he uses in his current job.

Next, Mr. Okamoto (NTN Corporation) gave a speech titled "For Choices Without Regrets." I think that not only the high school students but also their parents were greatly inspired by the story of how they simulated their life and financial situation and presented it to their parents.

Lastly, Mr. Kawashima (National Maritime Research Institute) gave a presentation titled "To Pursue Your Path", looking calmly at his own future and giving presentations at overseas academic conferences since he was an undergraduate. He said that he stepped up by accumulating various experiences and efforts. All three of the speakers had something in common in that when they were students at the university, they were actively engaged in club activities related to the sea, such as cutters, sailing, and swimming. The high school students listened with admiration to the seniors' lively talks about the experiences they had gained through the university's unique curriculum and club activities.

After a break, in the second part of the second half, we held a social gathering with the speakers under the title of "Let's talk about campus life and job hunting with seniors!"Parents also participated in the lectures, as it was a valuable opportunity to ask specific questions that could not be asked in the lectures. In the questionnaire, some high school students wrote that it was "helpful in collecting information" and "became wanting to know more about Ocean University".Every year, several participants actually go on to study at our university, making it an effective event for creating opportunities to advance to marine engineering. We would like to thank all the undergraduate and graduate students, as well as high school students who wish to study at our university and their parents, for their participation.
